Here’s what I discovered today when the dogs and I went on the wilderness trail.

Completely blocked! And I still haven’t got my tree guys to come clean up after last summer’s derechos! And then there’s the ash disease.
Many things blown around in the yard along with a million sticks. Is it any wonder I have more than 15,000 steps today?
My AC guy called before 8 to see if he could come this morning to service our AC units – I helped by bringing him shovels, weed trimmers, hoses, etc. We were both mud to our ankles!

Dogs needed a run and evidently some digging!

And the girls!

And Pammie – today

And on the front of a Pam’s sewing card in 2008.
I have so much to write regarding the cards but I’ll save it for another time – so I won’t forget anything.
It’s thundering and raining again – hopefully no wind. I know some of you are also getting this bad stretch of weather – let’s just be glad it isn’t snow! Stay safe, Everybody!

So sorry to hear that you lost another tree. We had lots of wind Sunday and Monday but nothing like what you all had. Hope you can get the trail cleaned off. I love your goats…they are marked so pretty. Love the quilts today!
I’m saving your goat photos. I’ve been taking watercolor classes and may attempt your goats. I love the coloring of them. I would love to see a video of them scampering about.
Suzanne – I’ll try for that!
I was thinking about your birthday card comment and why it is, but shouldn’t be, a “BIG DEAL.” For me, if I were to send one birthday card, it would be, at the very least, an hour and a half door-to-door IF I wrote something in the card, addressed it and went to the Post Office to mail it (instead of another trip just to the P.O.). I live at the very, very edge of a large city but that doesn’t mean things are convenient!! I thought, “wish I could buy a big box of cards like Mom used to!” Back then (we’re looking at 70-some years) she bought them from her niece who made a little extra on the side selling cards. Someone, back then, always did. So, where can I get a big box of cards?? YUP!! Amazon. If ya hafta, ya hafta. They are “in the mail!! . That leaves only the P.O. trip. Maybe someone else suggested this. If they did, I didn’t see it. So sorry if I’m doubling the effort here! If someone has the same problem I do, this is the best solution I found and if they didn’t think of it (like how long did it take me!!!), try Amazon! So bring on the birthday showers, in a few days I’ will be ready with my “card umbrella.”
Marlene – I do understand! Sending a greeting card at my suggestion is just that – a suggestion . It’s the same reason people’s $5 checks sometimes sit here for a couple weeks – I cannot drive to the bank with 1-2 $5 checks. If you’re comfortable sending a card, thank you. Boxes of inexpensive cards can be bought at the some Dollar Stores here – just FYI
Would your mail person take the card from your mailbox to the post office for you, if it is already stamped?
Pamela – mine does that for me every day – isn’t that a post office regulation?
Yesterday when we were working outside I heard a crash, my son was building a rock wall and I hoped it wasn’t the rocks crashing down, I realized it was a tree. Luckily it was in the forest, as we call it, which is a heavily treed area bordering our property but belongs to three other properties. It was a massive tree, my son and husband went to investigate and said the bottom of the tree was mush it was so rotten, it broke a tree in half when it fell but didn’t take out any buildings. Thank goodness and no one was in the area so didn’t get hurt.
Sorry you keep losing trees too. Stay safe with all those storms.
The goats are adorable and seeing hazel in a hole is so darn cute. Love the bullseye quilt too. I’ve never made one but sure like them. Have a great day.
Dear Mary, those storms reek havoc with your woodland trail. I can imagine costs a dollar or two…
Pammie is so sweet showing years on her. She must sleep a lot like my 14-year-old calico cat Phoebe!
Yes, the bullseye is timeless. This one is especially attractive with the narrow black inner piece. I enjoy mine every day on a bench in my foyer.
Thanks for your blog. I look for it every day. Hope we have no more bad storms.
Caitlin Clark is the Grand Marshall of the Indy 500!!!!!!!
Marian – yes, I heard it on the news – what does she not do???? But she has earned it all through hard work and humility. This will be the first time I’ve ever watched the Indy 500. And yes, Pammie does sleep the day away.
What an awful site to find on your wilderness trail, hope you get some help clearing it up. The goats seem to be settled and liking the farm life. I do hope your geranium pots survived the storms. I hope we got some of the rain in Wisconsin but I don’t need to find trees down. Love the Bullseye quilt and the idea of a flannel back sounds wonderful for cold Wi winters.
I really love your goats. They are so cute. Keep including pictures.
Oh my gosh! What mud and those downed trees! If only super glue would put them back together. I hate that you are losing so many lovely trees. The dogs don’t seem to mind, though. Happy just to dig. HaHa
I love my Bull’s Eye and it is so warm. I get it out every winter and sleep under it. Those layers, not much quilting and a flannel backing make it the warmest one I have. I am thankful you taught us how to make them. Love the colorful one, too. Your little goats are adorable. I hope they do learn the Wilderness Trail.
Sue – I’d really like to make another Bullseye – hmmmm
I have to agree the Bullseye quilt is probably one of my favorite quilts & a great way to use up scraps. I’ve not made one yet, but it’s on my list to do. Love the colors in the other quilt. I’m assuming Hazel got a bath last night! Bless her heart she does love to dig!! And Keeper does keep her company.😊 I’m not sure how much rain we got here last night, not much. But we had strong wind for a couple hours & the lights flickered several times, but never lost power. Our electric is all underground, so if we lose power it’s usually due to a transformer blowing. Luckily, Boots isn’t bothered by storms. Actually, not much bothers him! My previous dogs I’ve had to hold like a baby during storms. I’m off to do a little sewing before leaving for the gym this afternoon. Hope you didn’t have more damage to the wilderness trail, Mary. Take care.
Alice – I need to have Sue come and teach me how to quilt a bullseye quilt and then I’d make another one in a flash. Love the process but if I can’t quilt it, I don’t need another top. Hugs to Boots!!
Good morning! The trail is a mess again. We have several ash trees that aren’t greening up. We treat the four on our lawn….hoping that works. Those goats are so cute! 🥰 you will have to do a video of them jumping and skipping around! I miss our neighbors having stock cows in the pasture across the road. The calves are always so fun to watch!
I love the bullseye quilt and the colorful one is really stunning!
Have a good day….there ad frost warning for Wednesday morning in our area!
Hopefully you fared ok through yesterday’s storms. So many limbs down for you. Changes the look of your trail.
I too, still love the Bullseye quilt. It’s the favorite one of mine that I sewed. Never tire of seeing all the versions. Looks like your goats are fitting right in with your clan. What a lucky pair to have landed at your farm.
Love, Love, Love the color quilt! Hopefully your reader can share the name of the pattern.
We lost a couple big branches last night, but nothing like yours. Rain last night was 1 1/2″, that makes close to 4″ since Friday.
My back is better today, still going to baby it. Tried to sew last night. Got 2 rows on my nephew’s wedding quilt then had to stop. Going to try again today. Just needs borders then off to the longarmer.

I know the farmers love the rain, and it looks like more rain is coming.
Diana – Happy Birthday! Too bad you’re not 100% to celebrate. If the reader doesn’t see this I’ll try to track it down. Looks pretty easy – the fabric choices do all the work! Tell Elliott hi from Hazel – she’s much cleaner this morning – it probably rubbed off in my bed!!!!
My daughter is in southwest Iowa. They have had a stretch of ugly weather, the small stream by her house is surrounding her house tonight. It’s usually 8ish feet down for water, so you know there’s a lot. She came to help me when I got flooded, but I can’t lift things yet. They had 2 tornado warnings, and then the downpour came tonight. Same thing a couple nights ago, they got 4.5″ that night. Please think good thoughts for all of them in their small town.
Dee – we have watched all the weather happening in southwest Iowa – they have been hammered!!!! And if I recall, last winter they got slammed, too. We’ve been pretty lucky actually and have escaped the worst of the storms. Hope you’re recovering – please resist your desire to help even tho you want to!
I wonder what Keeper is thinking when Hazel has her head stuck in a muddy hole? The goats are so cute; they would probably enjoy exploring with the dogs.
I hope you don’t have more trees down tomorrow. Be Safe. 🥰
Jeanie – have you had this bad weather like us or southern Iowa?
We have had quite a bit of rain, which we need. But we have not had any damaging storms. Everything is really green.
Thinking of you Mary, more to do in your wilderness trail. No wonder you walk so many steps a day. If it’s not one thing it’s another, life in the country. Cheers
