Stormy Night, 5-17-26

Many warnings and tornado sightings around us but not on top of us so I’m sitting in the porch enjoying the thunderstorm. Hazel? Not so much – she’s clinging to Rick’s lap!

I just finished Theo of Golden and The Correspondent – has anyone read one or both?

Fever fans:

Did you know they both sit in the same seat when they attend each other’s games?

I have read The Correspondent and liked it very much. Theo is on my list, but have not gotten to it yet. I recently read “The Most Fun We Ever Had” and it’s a good read. Keep the book suggestions coming please!
The quilts are great; I love the Trail Mix! I’ve always intended to make one, but have not gotten around to it yet.

  2. Carolyn Knott

Teresa, your quilts are really nice and you certainly deserved the ribbons. Lots of work but paid off. I have finished several tops and working on another. I need to get all of them quilted but the creating is more fun. However I did just finish one and the binding is on. Yea me!!!!!!!(ha ha). I always like seeing the animals

I would like to know how the maker of the double knit quilt got hold of the double knits. I can’t fine anything to buy except the stretchy knits. My eldest son has a double knit quilt made by his great-grandma and loves the weight of it. He has asked me to make him another one, but I can’t find true old fashioned double knit.

    Thank y’all for any help!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Paula – good luck with that – I think double knit might be a thing of the past but I’d check a chain store like Joann’s or Hobby Lobby. I believe the quilt shown was made some time ago.

Does anyone know the name of the pattern that was used in the first photo, double knit quilt? I love the colors and overall pattern. I would like to make it using blendables or a certain line of fabric by Moda.
    Thanks for your help!

For the past several days, the pictures on your blog have come with broken links. I don’t know if it’s my computer or if other readers are experiencing the same thing.
I love your blog, but it’s sad when I can’t see the pictures!

    1. Susan from AL

      Hi Lyn,
I have had no problems at all with seeing the pictures. Are you reading on a computer or a tablet or phone?
You may have some security settings that need tinkering, or you may need to just restart the computer. Sometimes, updates download and things get mixed up. I hope that you can solve the problem!

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Susan – thank you so much for reaching out to Lyn because I have no idea what she’s experiencing or why but yes, it sounds like some sort of blocker on her computer since I’ve not heard anyone else having this problem. I hope so sees this.

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Lyn – better check your blockers – everyone else is seeing the pictures.

I have read Theo, of Golden. I enjoyed the book. Such a wonderful story. I don’t want to give anything about the book.
Do u highly recommend The Correspondent?

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Elizabeth – if you will email me about the correspondent I’ll tell you

Teresa in Indiana, what great looking quilts and congratulations on the ribbons. Thank you to all who have shared photos of their plaid quilts. They are really nice quilts, and very inspiring to me. I am looking at my plaid shirt collection to see if there are enough shirts and enough variety to do a quilt . . . not yet. We have had rain on an off since yesterday afternoon. Right now it is raining hard with thunder overhead. Everything is so green. Janice, Traverse City area.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Janice – very green here, too, with more storms coming tonight.

  8. Linda K

So many beautiful quilts. Storm not fun last night. Lots of Tim in the basement while sirens were going off. Luckily no damage near us. My brother in northern Mn has fires near him and wasn’t under control as of last night. They really need the rain to help stop it. Stay safe tonight everyone.

  9. Gail in Ohio

Love the quilt photos today – what a great virtual show! Those quilts and the makers are inspiring!
I haven’t read either book – I’ll put them on my list.
So glad the tornados missed you, Mary – and hope they continue to miss you. We don’t get very many tornado warnings in my part of east-central Ohio, but we do occasionally get severe storms and winds. It can be scary at times… hope everyone who reads your blog is okay.

  10. Suzanne in Massachusetts

Love the Trail Mix quilt, I made one years ago and still haven’t quilted it.

  11. Jan in AZ

Great job, Teresa. The ribbons are icing on the cake for a job well done. Thanks for sharing some of the other entries in the show. All the other quilts inspire, too! The plaid quilts in recent posts are luring me to make one – part of DD for next year?
I have read Theo, but not the other. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I am looking forward to returning to Golden when the second book about Ellen comes out this Fall.

      1. Mary H

I loved The Correspondent. I may go back and read it again. I just started Theo. Also loved Life: A Love Story.
Donita is so cute! Polka dots.

      2. Jan in AZ

I went on the website. Theo has several interesting Golden residents from which the author can draw to allow readers a return to the town of Golden and those who crossed Theo’s path. I hope Ellen won’t be the only one. Levi is a gifted writer on several levels, in my opinion.

  12. JudyE

Teresa what is the name of the pattern you used in the double knit quilt? Love the colors!
I really enjoy the quilt show each time since, I have been sick and unable to sew right now. I see many that I would like to make. Thanks everyone for sharing your quilting talents with us!

    1. Teresa in Indiana

Judy, sorry I didn’t make the double knit quilt. Maybe the maker will read this and enlighten us to the pattern she used.

  13. Janet S

While reading Theo of Golden, I purchased it – for sure I will read it again in the future and share with friends. We got nearly 1-1/2″ much needed rain while the lightning gave us quite a show so today everything is a glorious green in southern Minnesota. Great quilts again today. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

Thank you for sharing your quilts Teresa and congratulations on the ribbons. Stay safe with that weather. It’s a weird spring that is for sure. My son in Elko, NV sent us a picture yesterday saying you picked the good weekend to be here – they had about an inch of snow. When we were there temps were in the high 80’s.

  15. Carol

I have read both books. I really liked The Correspondent. Theo of Golden not as much. Many readers love Theo but it didn’t win me over as much. Both are good reads!

  16. Diane in WI

I’m glad you didn’t have any tornadoes. I was watching Ryan Hall’s coverage of the weather. I saw Garner on the map. The tornadoes were close to you. Our storms this morning weren’t bad. Teresa has beautiful quilts. Hope your weather is better today.

    1. Teresa in Indiana

Thanks Diane. I always enjoy seeing all the quilts Mary and readers post.

  17. Fran Dixon

Is that an AI generated photo of Caitlin?

Love all the quilts today! Can’t pick a favorite but some awesome quilts–a job well-done!

Spent 30 min the basement in the walk in closet last night surrounded by fabric and quilts. Comforting at least–as the sirens went off and I shut the door. The electric flickered only once but I had a flashlight. Dodged another one. More coming tonight they predict. I have to run an errand before they start up again! Cooler temps. I leave in the early a.m. on bus trip.

  18. marilyn magelitz

I’ve read (listened) to both books and would highly recommend! My favorite in a long time is Theo of Golden, just loved that book.

  19. Bonny

I have read The Correspondent and liked it . Being a dinosaur who still writes actual letters, that storyline especially appealed to me.

Every quilt inspires! What creative talents, all!

  20. Sheryl Harrison

I have Theo the Golden on hold in the online library. I check whenever a borrow another book and it looks like my wait is going to be a long long time.

    Beautiful quilts in today’s blog.

      1. Sheryl Harrison

That is so kind of you! I am favoring reading books on my kindle app because I can make the print larger. I like to read in bed so I am not wearing my glasses.

I just looked on the local library’s website and they have the book. It is checked out but I can reserve it. I’ll stop by next time I run errands to see how many people are ahead of me. I’m sure not as many as the online book! Thank you for the offer.

    1. Cynthia in Minnesota

I put my name on the local library for a large print edition copy. I will wait a while too, I am #55.

  21. Kathy in western NY

Wonderful quilt show. Thank you for giving us this armchair thrill. Never tire of seeing a Bulleyes quilt.
I’m still reading Theo of Golden and love it!

  22. Deb from Iowa

Thank you for the wonderful quilt show. Teresa, you make the most beautiful quilts. I give you a blue ribbon on everything you make.

    1. Teresa in Indiana

Deb, thank you so much. I was truly not expecting any. I wish I had taken more pics. The show was awesome!

  23. Joy in Nw Iowa

The quilts are all beautiful! Theresa, wow! What a bunch if beauty!
Jay and I spent some time in the storm room last evening. There were rotation sightings 4 miles straight west of us. After the first round of storms there was a set coming from grand island, ne but that did a lot of damage around Sioux City.
We were spared from any major hail and wind! We did get some hard rain and it was very much welcomed.
Today is a trip to Sioux Falls to have lunch with a dear friend!

  24. Gloria B - northern IL

Really enjoyed The Correspondent. Being that it was A Katie Couric Book club selection I thought it was going to be about news correspondents- wrong! Listened on audio and thought narration was very good as well.

I appreciate your book reviews and suggestions from blog readers. Just put Theo of Golden on hold.

  25. Ginger S in New Hampshire

Beautiful quilt today. My bookclub is reading Theo of golden for our June meeting. Haven’t started it yet but looking forward to it.

  26. Donna Sproston

I loved both of those books! Ellen of Golden is to be released in October. We had a tornado warning yesterday and lots of thunder last night. Much needed rain is still falling..Love the quilt show!

  27. Diane

I read both books. Loved Theo of Golden more than The Corespondent. Our Bookclub opted decided against reading Theo of Golden in 2027. I was disappointed as it was one of the best books I’ve read in quite some time.

    1. Cynthia in Minnesota

I must chime in here as well, Teresa! Fantastic quilts! You are very creative! Thank you for sharing!

  28. Marit

I’ve read Theo of Golden I think it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read! Marit

    1. Martha W in WY

Oh, speaking of storms, we are supposed to get up to 3″ of snow overnight into Monday. My poor flowers are so confused this year. Some days 70 and then into the 40s and below and the 60-70s the next. Ugh!

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Martha – snow!!! No!! This is an oddspring for weather / this was a wild evening / can’t wait to see the news in the morning. Thank goodness, we haven’t had any 40’s
