I hauled plants back into the house and covered the rest of them up because we could get down to the high 30’s before morning. And the Texans are suffering in high heat – where between Texas and Iowa is it just right?????
Did you watch The Fever game? Chicago didn’t stand a chance. Score was 93-58 and had an entertaining 3rd quarter incident involving …. yup, Caitlin and Angel! I can’t wait to read the media about that!
Yes, Barney is still here and he and Mama are tolerating each other, I think.

Right after I took this picture a small conflict took place so it’s not all moonlight and roses yet. Sigh.
They should take a hint from Greta who knows how to relax!

One reader quilt

Has anyone watched the documentary on Netflix called “The Quilters”? It is about a group of prisoners who sew quilts for foster children. It’s a little over 30 minutes long. Some nice quilts.
Love the kitty pictures. That Greta sure knows how to relax!
I too love the quilt and it would certainly be a good scrap user.
The snake story was a bit scary! Here in Texas we have quite a few snakes and not all of them are harmless. I’m pretty terrified of snakes. When a child, I was in a boat with my parents and their friends at night as they were frog gigging. One of them gigged a water moccasin! Yikes! Then two of my sons have barely missed being bit by water moccasins on separate occasions. So I stay far far away from snakes!
My Iowa son had a gopher snake in his bedroom one day. He was sleeping as he worked nights and his dog kept messing with him. She finally pounced on his chest and he saw the snake. He called his mom to see what to do about it. Like I could help from Texas!
Susan – don’t moms have all the answers? Haha!!
Great quilt me What a way to use up lots of scraps. I’m behind in reading your blog. The last week has been full of planting the garden and a bunch of new perennials. I planted over 100 perennials this year. I start most of them from seed under grow lights. I can save lots of money that way.
Marie – you go, Girl! I hate gardening in the ground because I hate weeding – you must have a strong back to weed over 100 new perennials!
Very little weeding for me. I use lots of cypress mulch in my flowers and in my garden I use a thick layer of straw around everything. By doing these things I don’t have to water as much either.
We do not have Netflix but my daughter does, so I was able to go to her house today to watch The Quilter’s. It was heartwarming to see the men become involved in the joy of making a quilt. More prisons should have programs like this. I thought their creative using donated fabrics was well thought out.
I don’t recall the person that recommended watching this, but thank you for your suggestion!
Greta certainly looks relaxed.
Jim and I worked all morning out on our deck and water feature area. Stopped to eat lunch on the deck when a large gust of wind came thru. We heard a large plop hitting our deck box and stood up to see what fell over when we saw a large SNAKE slither off the box and go behind our covered grill. I saw a least 6 feet but the head part was a already partway under the grill cover so not sure how long it was. It had fallen out of the tree we had been working under all morning !!!! Jim ran into the house and told me to go see where it went !!!!! It was a black snake from what little I had seen, but not sure. There has been a number of baby black snakes coming out of the woods behind us. Welcome to the South I guess. P.S. Jim is terrified of snakes; what a baby.
Barbara, I’m with Jim, I would have been in the house in a flash and probably never use the grill again!
Haha. My neighbor came over and helped me get him off the deck. He was a Black Rat Snake; a good one to have aound. Safely returned him to the woods behind us.
Barbara – loved the snake story but I’d probably side with Jim. We dont have snakes so if I saw one around here, I’d freak out! So why is he a good one to keep around – what does he eat/do to make him valuable?
Mary & Barb, I’d be out of there! No snakes for me. Not even garter snakes!
Well, last evening we had a fire in the solostove. It was very nice outside and the fire was awesome. Jay was looking for marshmallows…have to buy some! Today (Sunday) the wind is from the east! Yes, more wind! We’re suppose to get rain. Sure hope so!
Love your blog and you Mary! Also, everyone that writes!
Joy – yes, northeast wind is much easier for us but it got chilly tonight. No windows open! I hope it rains, too – not much grass to mow yet around here but it will soon be all weeds because all the grass died.
Mary, He keeps the poison snakes at bay and eats rats and mice.
I watched the game and as always, enjoyed it. Told my sister to be sure to watch as she has basic cable and doesn’t always get to see the games. I text her 3rd quarter and said-good game. She text back and said it wasn’t on-it was another game instead. I told her they got a late start so she didn’t start watching until the 4th quarter. Well darn! At least she got to see some of it. i expected something between Caitlyn and Angel would happen-seems Angel enjoys a skirmish between them for every game. Keeps her in the news anyway.
Was hoping to wash windows today but so windy I don’t think I can keep my balance on the ladder. Guess I’ll have to watch Netflix and sew instead. Heck! 🎉😂
The pattern I used for the scrap quilt was Goodnight Irene by Missouri Star Quilt Co. They have an excellent YouTube video tutorial on the quilt that shows a quick way to make the 16 patch blocks.
If you look online, it looks like the pattern goes by other names as, I think, it is a traditional quilt pattern.
Would love the pattern if you would like to write it up or I can use Mr. Google. (like you better)
Crazy weather here too! 80’s a few days ago then 40 last night. Terrible storms went thru and left oodles of branches to pick up.
Love the kitty pictures but sorry for the conflict!
Today’s quilt is wonderful. Does it have a name as I would love to make this one? During all this windy weather last week we lost a favorite apple tree in the front yard. It looked healthy but once down, we could see it was rotted in the middle. It was so very lucky it didn’t hit anything else so we just have to get the mess cleaned up this week. Unfortunately, I must have been in a zone because I missed the Fever game – dang. I did watch the Preakness horse race which had a really great finish and also the Twins/Milwaukee baseball game. Go Twins – 13 wins in a row.
Has anyone watched ‘The Quilters’ on Netflix and if so, what did you think of it. My hubby watched and is telling everyone to check it out.
Janet – go online and check out the incident in the third quarter between Angel and Caitlin. I saw the Preakness ending – very exciting. The rest of the game was ho-hum because the Fever was so far ahead.
I have made this same quilt with lots of scraps and the pattern I used was called Goodnite Irene. Looked just like this quilt, lots of 2 1/2 inch blocks from scraps. Hope this helps. Pat in Iowa City
Jeanne,I have had the same ads. I just clicked on the side and the ad clicked off-sometimes there is a triangle instead of x.
My weather has been nice except for a couple tornado threats and high winds. Have a great day!
Its 75 and warm here in Murphy, NC where I’m at cooking class with my daughter. Back home in Wisconsin we had terrible weather with 4-inch hail and lots of wind damage. So glad the husband put all my flowerpots in the garage. We had no damage but some limbs down. The weekend cooking class is all about pastas and it’s been a whirlwind of learning and all the dishes were yummy! On Monday we start the Indian Cuisine, which I don’t know much about but our daughter loves. I had over 15 add that I closed on today’s blog, so it’s good here.
Good morning Mary! It was 40* here this morning. I brought the three hanging plants into the garage with the horrible winds so just kept them indoors with the cold. I went to a memorial service yesterday to honor my friend from the exercise class Fitness after 55, she was 91 and as sharp and fit as someone 40 years younger. She lived in her home and took care of herself and still grove her own car, etc. She had a stroke and died while on an extended vacation visiting with her daughter and her kids in Florida in February. It still does not feel like she is gone. I also went to check on my bluebird trails and only one house had gotten loose so I put the house back up on its pile. Still just two bluebirds have laid eggs , and 7 tree swallow s have eggs, so they have been busy. It was a windy and cold walk. The sun was out but still cold. Today I will get to work on the binding of my quilt so I can start a couple new projects.
I like the quilt as well. I think I would have a heart attack if a six ft snake plopped on the deck. We only have garter snakes here and we now only see them if out hiking in the woods. I saw one a few years ago that was about 3.5 feet long. Luckily it was slithering into a pond. Away from me! I’ve been quilting and card making a lot lately. I’ve started quilting a queen size quilt that will go on our spare bed in the summer time. It will take a while. I have a Sweet 16, sit down machine to quilt on but it is slow going with such a big quilt. I will send a picture when it’s done. We had such nice warm spring weather then the rains came and Saturday we had a very windy storm with thunder lightening and rain. It was crazy. Mits quite cold now.
Hi Mary, Bella was giving my brother’s dog Eileen the side eye on the second day of their visit, she was pleased to see the dog go home l think! Great to see them, wet ,windy overnight, but cleared and they had a smooth sailing back to the south island. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Catlin is phenomenal!!
I didn’t have any trouble with ads tonight. But I have in the past.
My neighbor came over and turned on my sprinklers today. He checked all the heads, every thing working a-ok. He wants to add some new bushes to the system, so they will be automatically watered when the zone comes on. What a guy.
Great scrap quilt tonight.
The weather here in Co. has been weird too. Yesterday we were invited to some friends home up in the mtns., elevation around 8000 ft. It lightly snowed all afternoon but not enough to stay on the ground. However, as we came back down the mtn., the snow turned to sleet and the temps dropped 30 degrees before we got home. It’s spring in Co. lol
The one quilt today was beautiful and a great way to empty a scrap basket.
Mary, the last several days I have not been able to delete the ads in the blog.
The ads are there with a small triangle, but no X that we can touch to delete them. Just thought you ought to know. Has anyone else had that problem?
Wasn’t that Fever/Sky game great? A great way to start the season. And Caitlin is getting to play the way she did for Iowa. All the gals on their team are working well together and we thought the refs were a lot better than last year too. Loved the picture of all the pets today as usual. Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – wow, snow and sleet in mid May! Bizarre weather everywhere. I’ve made this quilt, too, so I can write it up for everyone. Yes, Caitlin played like her old self – I hope her coach can see it. What did you think of the skirmish?
The reader’s quilt today is very pretty; looks like a great use of scraps. Greta looks so sweet, makes me want to reach out and give her a tummy rub.
Chilly and drizzling here today. I’m planning to finish cutting out the pieces for a quilt.
