I’ll be the first to admit I overworked my poor body today – the first clue would be over 18,000 steps and about mid day, Hank’s mom reminded me I wasn’t 55 any more.
Country Threads had a semi trailer in back for storage and everything from the farm over a span of 40 years has been “stored” underneath. I hired a young man who has a business of cleaning out sheds, basements, buildings, etc to clean out underneath and get rid of it.
This morning was the scheduled time but when he showed up, he said his helper didn’t show for work so guess who volunteered. I had to – he needed an extra pair of hands. Here is the loaded trailer.

Yes, he and I hauled it to his truck and threw it in. Here’s the semi trailer now – all the junk is gone!

Just imagine all that junk in the truck laying under the trailer and crawling under to get it out.
I rested a couple hours and then rode the lawn mower but didn’t get quite finished. Right about now I’m hoping I can make it to church tomorrow morning.
You’re going to love the quilt show tonight!

WOW! What a quilt show – I’m pushing my luck with this many pictures – I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Good Night or Good Morning, depending on when you’re reading this!

WOW Mary! You really worked hard getting all that hauled away! Hope you’re taking it easy today. Loved seeing all the quilts. The patriotic ones really make my heart smile.
Peggy S – Is there a pattern you used for your beautiful waving flag?

Wonderful quilt show, thank you.
The trailer looks great. My husband has stored a bunch of junk behind the shed in the back yard and I am thinking of taking it to the road bit by bit, he hasn’t used any of that junk in at least 5 years.
I know what you mean about all the work and not losing a pound. All I’ve been doing is work, work, work, most often not even stopping for lunch, and the pounds just stay right where they are. I scooted around on my bum all day today scrubbing tile floors and grout. I can’t get on my knees, it’s too painful so I scoot like a kid. But the tile floors are clean and look good until dogs and husband drag in the dirt and sand.
Blessings to all, got to get the donkeys feed and tucked in for the night.
Linda – I had to just throw some of the stuff Rick wanted to keep because he’d “use it some day”. He hasn’t used it in 29 years!!!! And he never will! It would work for this and that – good grief – he’ll save it all and never look at it again.
So today I’m sitting in the porch with beer, pop and snacks – I am what I am. Haha!!!
Mary, you are amazing!! What a wonderful quilt show today, as always!!!
My dad is so thankful for this group and our card sharing! He received 103 birthday cards for his 98th birthday. He loved reading them and learning all about you and where you live. There are a lot of farmers in this group. He even got a card from Canada! I told all my friends and family about what you do and they think it’s wonderful. Maybe more groups will start doing this.
Farmers and quilters are the BEST!!
Believe it or not, I think I understand your hard work. Last October I was called into grandma duty. I live in Ohio and my grandson lives in Arizona. His other grandma, who watches him, had a heart attack and they needed someone to come. We were and are in the process of getting my mother in laws estate settled. So much stuff she had kept. Attic was full. I dropped everything and flew alone to Arizona. My husband had doctor appointments so he couldn’t go. After 2 months I was back home to the mess of loading a 30 cubic dumpster full. Then a metal dumpster. House looks good. Garage still needs more done. Other grandma is doing good. You see things that need done and do them. Old age not for sissies! 71 and still going!
Margie – EXCELLENT! You’re right – something needs to be done and you just do it. I’ll bet it wasn’t fun to come home to that big job. I think women simply know how to work. Men are big procrastinators
Beautiful quilt show Mary!! Sew fun to read about your activities and everyone who comments too!@
Wow! What a huge job. Looks like now though, you have made a new spot to dig and look for critters. lol
The quilt show was wonderful. Love all the red, white and blues. I have a few small ones to add. Have a lovely Sunday and Memorial Day. We decorated my husbands families graves yesterday with bouquets from our yard. The Rhododendrons are in full bloom and perfect to decorate with.
Beautiful quilts today and for that matter everyday. You all have so much to share about your everyday living. Mary you are a hard worker. I hope your hauler took a reduction in pay as he did not have to pay a worker and if he takes the scrap metal to a place that takes metal he will get paid for that also. But I’m sure you’re just glad it’s hauled away and you didn’t have to do it.
Yesterday I took a quilt to my sister in law for a retirement gift and the we took her and my brother out to lunch for all that they have done in helping our family members.
This morning I cut and cleaned spinach to have with a meal later today. Working on my king size pineapple quilt. In the process of sewing the blocks into rows and the the binding. Hope I can get it done this weekend.
Be safe everyone and have a wonderful Memorial weekend.
Mary, you worked so very hard and then you still made a post for your readers. Thank you!!!!!!
Rita – a king size pineapple quilt sounds like a nightmare! How wide are your strips?
The strips are 1 1/2, 1 inch finished, blocks are 10 inch finished. It will measure 120 x100.
Right now it’s in four sections. 3 sections need to have rows ironed open and then put together. Depending on the finished measurement I will add a border to the above size.
Then it off to be quilted. Backing and batting already bought.
Rita – 1-1/2”!!! You’re my hero – that is a huge quilt – is it for you, I hope?
Yes, what a wonderful quilt show! Loved them all! Thank you!
I am curious. What about inside that trailer?
I hope to see my sewing room today! Yesterday I could not even muster a short walk!
Fran – inside the trailer are tubs full of our show curtains, table covers, other supplies and lots and lots of empty totes. Ugh. Wish I could have a sale.
Mary you always amaze me! Yes I don’t comment much but sometimes you just leave me speechless. I think I am probably a year older than you and I have to think before I leap into a project or I pay the reward of pain for weeks. My Doctor says you have to know your limits. So, guess what I am saying is you are strong by nature and the farm and animals sure are your Love. You just are Amazing in all you do. God Bless and have a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend!
Marcella – thank you for those compliments – I live by the old saying “use it or lose it” and I have decided I’m still a farmer.
Great quilts as always! The patriotic quilts are awesome – so much variety. When one lives on a farm there are always big jobs to do. I stand in awe of your ability to help load that trailer – I can’t imagine. We are fortunate to have a couple of guys we can call when we need help as neither of us are supposed to do heavy lifting. We got our raised bed garden planted and soaker hose with timer installed. We trying a new trellis system for our cucumbers. It is shaped like an inverted “V” and supposed to make it easier to pick the cukes – we will see. Also have all but one planter planted – just have to put the elephant ears and caladium bulbs in that one. Hope you have a good Memorial Day!
Mary, you are amazing! I had an aunt who still pounded in steel fence posts at 93!
The quilts are all beautiful! The little girl, precious! My favorite is the quilts on the deck rail! Wow!
Joy – your aunt is my hero! I so hope I’ll be able to do the same. I know where the post pounder is – haha!!!
The quilts over the deck rails with the flowers and flags makes a striking photo. Beautiful!!!
Great quilts. Drink lots of water Mary.
What a fabulous quilt show! I hope you can make it to church today after all of your hard work yesterday.
Wow, Mary, what a job getting all that stuff out from under the semi and into that huge trailer! I hope the guy was sufficiently impressed with the ‘help’ you gave him! I hope you are okay today! Great quilt show. We are having a sudden spell of hot weather (for the time of year) so I have been getting lots of washing dry on the line outside. I love the smell of clothes and bedding that has dried outside in the sun!
Fiona – is there anything better than climbing into a bed made with line dried sheets? I think not!
Fiona and Mary, Sun dried bedding is the greatest aid there is to make me relax and go to sleep also.
Janet – sun dried what? I can’t figure it out
Mary – I think she means her sheets that have been dried in the sun hung outside on a clothes line. That’s my thought on it anyhow.
This was an amazing post; the quilts were wonderful!
All your work today made the area around the semi look great! Since you are always working at something around the farm and stay in shape, you will probably be fine. Mary, you deserve to do something fun tomorrow. 🥰
Nice quilts-the little gal in the purple jacket is precious. Was her jacket homemade?
What a day you had Mary! Did he pay you by the hour? I washed windows and shutters outside today. The last shutter I washed had a nest half made by a barn swallow. What a muddy mucky mess. I’d had enough for the day after that. Took Jake for a walk and called it a day.
Hi Cindy , the little girl is my granddaughter Catherine and I made her the coat, she likes it so much and wanted her picture in with Papa. From the left overs I made the little doll blanket, she was thrilled. She won’t wear her coat to daycare-she doesn’t want it to get dirty. Hilarious coming from a 3yr old. They live a two day drive away so don’t see each other as often as we’d like but thank goodness for video chatting.
Mary the quilt show was spectacular. Thank you! And maybe have an ice tea tomorrow, you deserve it!
So cute!!! Both your little granddaughter and the jacket!
You did deserve an iced tea after that accomplishment. You are a testament to hard work now and paying for it later! And you were right about the quilt show. Between the r/w/b quilts and all the plaids, i spent a long time carefully studying each one. Thanks for a fun post.
You are right; tonight’s quilt show is spectacular! Lots of great patriotic quilts.
Hubby is in a world of hurt tonight also. Not digging out and carrying but reaching up and trimming trees to give the garden a bit more sun. Hope you both are able to move tomorrow. I just planted a bit more garden. I would kid my father about resting when he got older and he would retort, “I can rest in Heaven and if I don’t make it to heaven, I’ll be in shape for the other.” Truth be told, he just liked to work and resting was hard for him. Have a good, easy day tomorrow.
DebMac – I do like to work and see no reason to stop until I absolutely have to. I intend to live on this farm till I die so I need to keep it up.
Love all the patriotic quilts. I think I might have some of the patterns or something similar.
I’ sure your happy all that is gone, and I know how you feel when you do to much, not good.
All the quilts are beautiful, could not pick just one I love.
Hi Mary, l don’t know how you do it! My legs are tired because I made bread this morning, sorting out ingredients, kneading etc, after l did all the usual morning activities . The bread is yummy ,a bit of a treat as l am trying to watch my weight! I hope you took it easy with a iced tea! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy – I did indeed have an ice tea!!! With all my exercise, wouldn’t you think I’d be skinny? Haha! Nope!
