No pictures, no news – the funeral was so very sad. I didn’t dare raise my eyes from the piano because everyone in my sight was sobbing and I was afraid I would cry, too. I just wanted you to know I will post tomorrow about something more fun. I looked at my calendar only to realize I’ve been to 5 funerals in the past 16 days. Only 3 of the 5 were elderly. Tomorrow I need to get some “retail therapy”.
Mary so very sorry for all very sad days lately…..it makes your soul wear out. May you have a wonderful day tomorrow!
Yes, you do need some retail therapy. 1998, Nov. and Dec. were like that for us and it wears on you. I hated to answer the phone. A day filled will beautiful material and thrift store treasures will lighten your spirits.
That is a lot of sadness to be faced with so quickly. You did a very good thing today – especially for the family – but I can imagine how hard it must have been. Tomorrow will be a better day.
So sorry Mary. That is too many funerals in a short period of time.
bless you for your strength to be there for those families. i’m sure they were very appreciative. now you cheer yourself with the retail.
I know how you feel having planned the funeral of my MIL and a few weeks before losing a close friend who was 60 yrs old. Two is enough for me for awhile but I suspect like you living in a small town there will be others. It’s A lot of emotions to work through. The music becomes a reflective moment but so important to the soul. Our stormy weather hasn’t helped going outside but I am determined today to get out and connect myself with what keeps my life balanced. And treat myself to a new book at Barnes and Nobles too! Hope you write about your good day with us so we can all share some joy.
Dear Mary,
Please know what a gift you offer in the music for a funeral or a memorial service.
I lost my husband on December 2nd and the musicians at his memorial service December 8th offered such beautiful music that I felt as if I were receiving a beautiful gift. The music, mandolin/flute/guitar added joyful beauty and it began to feel as if the Sanctuary was filling with love. Now that my husband’s spirit is part of the immense Divine Love present for this world, I listen to the recording of his service and feel the love, yet again. I realized that these folks mourned the loss of their dear friend, yet chose to offer the gift of music to our family and friends. I imagine that’s a bit how you feel when you do the same. Hopefully there are moments to grieve …… and remember.
Thank you for sharing this offering that you put out into the world ~~ music for remembering.
Blessings abound,
Martha in Maine
God’s peace
Sorry Mary.
So sad for you. In our family if we make it through January and February we will be around the rest of the year.
With the last 3 deaths of 40 year old women from our community,I am so aware of how blessed I am to be 69. No complaints about my little aches and pains. Have a good day with your retail therapy. It is good to do more of what you enjoy.
Diane Deibler – Becky and I said the very same thing!
What a gift your music is to families. It soothes the soul.
Blessings to you.
Bless your heart. I’m so sorry.
Thinking of you Mary… trusting brighter days are ahead… be kind to yourself as you deal with all this grief. Hug Hazel!!!
Praying for you and all the dear families! There is such a fine line between joy and sorrow.
Bless you!
Hugs,
Judy in Texas
I hope you can stop to feel the love being sent to you by your MANY friends. Those in the Garner area I know appreciate so very much what you give to your community and those of us all over the world appreciate the time you give to us. Hope Valentines day will be special. Sending love, Martha from PA.
Hope some good retail therapy soothes your sadness, Mary! Always sad to lose friends and neighbors.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY.
That is an awful lot of loss in a very short period of time. Be very gentle with yourself and find joy in what you love. Remember you will keep these people in your heart forever and you will see them again. How do people get along without faith???
Diane Bauer – I DO NOT KNOW how people get by without faith!
I moved into assisted living in 2013 and in 10 months, 23 people I met and enjoyed died that year. Life isn’t always easy….but it’s also kept me away from moving back.
Hope you were able to share joyous moments with each of these people, while they were still among us!
Hope today is a bit better, Mary. Treat yourself this Valentines Day. Hope you have a nice one.
Oh Mary, it has been a hard time for you. I am sure your music has helped many people that you don’t even realize have been helped. As someone mentioned, music does soothe the soul. Bless you for sharing your talent so many times. You bring your readers joy every time you post so there is another way you help people. Enjoy your therapy; you deserve it.
How very sad to have so many funerals in such a short period of time. I agree – retail therapy is definitely in order. New fabric always makes me happy!
Treasure all your memories you hold in your heart. Please find joy in the comfort that you provide to others through your music. Why does it seem that funerals etc. always seem to come in groups of three?
God only gives us what he thinks we can handle. Tough sometimes!
Mary, Your music is a long lasting gift to the families, a real memory invoking tie to their loved ones. When my mother died we were at a loss to choose the hymn for her minister to sing because she loved all the old hymns so he chose His Eye Is On the Sparrow. Now with the sampler and enduring popularity of that hymn, I often am reminded of mama, long after the paralyzing pain of the separation has lessened so that I can appreciate the message. And so it goes with funerals of friends and the music chosen. Using your talent that way is truly a priceless gift.
Carolyn – His Eye Is On the Sparrow was second to the last song we played with How Great Thou Art being the final song. Treasured songs, both!
Yes we have had 2 deaths so far this year and the year is just beginning. Two dear and wonderful friends have just been diagnosed with lung cancer and one with COPD. So much for smoking when they were young. I just pray for comfort for them.
Shirley Ann – so so sad!
